GreenStreet Homes

The greenest building is the existing one.

GreenStreet homes represent our mission of sustainable development, we are responsible for the first NAHB Emerald certified remodel in the United States, and the second LEED certified single family remodel in the United States.

GreenStreet homes define sustainable development, all homes feature the following:

  • No new construction. GreenStreet is passionate about using existing structures. The greenest building is the existing one.
  • No tear down of exterior walls. Most municipalities define a remodel as preserving a single 10’ exterior wall. GreenStreet homes preserve all exterior walls, which results in less construction waste, and preserving natural resources.
  • A reduction in carbon emissions of 30 – 70%. We quantify our results by doing a pre and post HERS test. Typical scores see a pre-remodel HERS of 200 +, and a post-remodel score of less than HERS 75.
  • Water efficiency. By implementing drip-irrigation, native landscape design, and low flow fixtures, we are able to reduce water use up to 80% in most cases. When possible, we follow Water Sense strategies.
  • Healthier indoor air quality. Toxic air quality sources are removed. We assess air flow in the house, inspecting mechanical equipment and air ducts. All materials used in the construction process are selected based on emission specs, and green standards such as Green Seal, without sacrificing design, aesthetic appeal, or budget.
  • Location. GreenStreet encourages urban redevelopment. We are able to use existing houses, and remodel them to the desires of today’s market. Most of our homes are located within ¼ mile of the light rail. We promote walkable neighborhoods, with evidence that by improving one or two houses on a street it will change an entire neighborhood for the better.
  • Budget. Green does not have to be more expensive. GreenStreet is able to remodel to LEED or NAHB standards, without increasing a project’s budget. Our homes are priced less than today’s market value.
  • Design. Living area is maximized through creative use of spaces. When touring a GreenStreet home, we often hear comments saying it feels much bigger than the listed square footage.
